[ARCHIVED] Detective Mark DuBois to Retire after 35 Years

DuBois Award 2025

BOULDER CITY – He started his career with the Boulder City Police Department in August of 1990 as a Reserve Police Officer. This week, Detective Mark DuBois will retire after 35 years of law enforcement, working for the Boulder City Police Department.

Detective DuBois served in a variety of assignments, including Patrol, Traffic, Crime Scene, Investigations, Fleet, and as a Firearms Instructor. For the last 15 years, he has been a Detective and Crime Scene Analyst. “I like Boulder City because residents truly appreciate what we do for them. Policing here is truly community-oriented,” Det. DuBois said. “I am grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and professional relationships developed during my time with the department, and I will always value my years of service with the Boulder City Police Department.”

Det. DuBois recently closed a murder case that took perseverance and innovation. In October 2021, an elderly woman was shopping in Las Vegas when two suspects followed her home. One suspect jumped out of the car and grabbed the victim’s purse, dragging her to the car. The suspects drove away, causing her to fall and suffer severe injuries. She died in December 2021; her death was ruled murder caused by the head trauma. “It was a long, frustrating case, because we started with nothing. We used modern technology – surveillance video, cell phone tracing, license plate readers, credit card information and even social media – to solve the case,” he said. The suspects, two women from Antioch, CA, were arrested in 2024. One confessed.

In October 2025, both women pled guilty and were sentenced to a total of 12 to 30 years in Nevada prison. “I called the victim’s son up after the plea agreement. He made an impact statement to the court, and was thankful that the case came to a resolution,” Det. DuBois said. “Solving the really difficult cases, you can give the victim’s family some sort of closure - that’s probably what I’m going to miss most about this job.”

Boulder City leaders appreciate his work. “Detective DuBois dedicated his time to solving this senseless murder. He also stayed in touch with the victim’s family throughout the investigative and court process,” said Mayor Joe Hardy. “That is real dedication. City Council and I wish him all the best in his retirement.”

As Detective DuBois gets ready for his last day on February 11, 2026, his wife Patti DuBois, a Judicial Marshal in North Las Vegas, is scheduled to retire the very next day. “I appreciate the work both Mark and Patti have given to law and order,” said Police Chief Tim Shea. “They both will be missed by their colleagues.”
